In terms of aesthetics this miniature Elbaite tourmaline specimen from the modern day classic Brazilian pegmatite occurrence at Coronel Murta in Minas Gerais state is way up there. Two colourful and charismatic red-tipped green prismatic Elbaite crystals are partially wrapped in a 'jacket' of cream coloured platy Lepidolite crystals. The largest Elbaite crystal reaches 5.7 cm in length and is complete and doubly-terminated. The second Elbaite crystal is terminated perfectly with a beautiful red tip, but its lower end is a smooth fracture plane rather than a full termination. Somewhat reminiscent of the legendary red-tipped Elbaite crystals from the 'Lollipop Pocket' at Cruzeiro mine this superb smaller display piece stands up extremely well against those much more expensive finds. There are no recorded repairs.
