The Pederneira Claim at São José da Safira in the Doce Valley, Minas Gerais, Brazil is renowned for some of the most intensely coloured green and blue tourmalines that the world has seen. This individual 4.2 cm tall prismatic Elbaite crystal presents a really fine deep electric blue to teal blue colour - the variety known as Indicolite - with fine translucency allowing backlighting. A small cluster of pale pink Lepidolite crystals are attached to its base and it is fully terminated with a flat pinacoid face. It is mounted on an acryllic base using hot glue, but can easily be removed.
