Barite with Quartz, Stephanite, Galena
Unknown Owner
An attractive specimen featuring clusters of well crystallized barite measuring up to 2.0 cm scattered across the top of a sparkling crystallized quartz matrix, accented by a dusting of metallic galena and fine micro crystals of stephanite that add subtle contrast and collector interest. The specimen is in good condition with no significant damage noted and is accompanied by an antique label dating the piece to the very early 20th century, as shown at the end of the video, providing strong historical provenance. The Churprinz Friedrich August Erbstolln Mine is part of the historic Freiberg mining district in Saxony, one of Europe's most important silver mining regions since the Middle Ages, renowned for its complex hydrothermal veins rich in silver minerals, galena, barite, and associated species, making specimens from this classic locality highly regarded among collectors. The quartz crystals appear to be forming replacements after previous bladed barite crystals.
