An attractive and well preserved specimen featuring sharply formed quartz pseudomorphs after calcite, faithfully retaining the original calcite crystal shapes while displaying the durability and sparkle of quartz. The casts are complemented by brassy metallic pyrite and dark lustrous sphalerite, creating strong visual contrast and classic Baia Mare district character. The piece is in great condition with no significant damage noted. Cavnic is part of the historic Maramures mining district of northwestern Romania, a world renowned epithermal vein system celebrated for its diverse sulfide mineralization and distinctive pseudomorphs, making this an excellent example from a classic European locality.
