Fluorite with Galena

Unknown Owner
Stunning specimen showcasing rosy purple, semi lustrous, translucent fluorite crystals to 3.0 cm on edge that aesthetically emerge from a quartz crystal covered matrix with lustrous galena and sphalerite, offering a richly textured and colorful display; while there is very slight micro damage, the piece is overall in very good condition and carries the original collection data card (as shown at the end of the video). This fine example comes from the Hill Ledford Mine in southern Illinois, part of the historic Cave in Rock Mining Sub District within the Illinois Kentucky fluorspar district, where underground fluorspar and associated minerals were mined from Mississippi Valley type limestone hosted deposits starting in the late 1950s through the 1970s, yielding attractive purple fluorite with galena, sphalerite, and quartz combinations that are now increasingly uncommon and highly prized by collectors for both aesthetic appeal and regional significance.
