Hedenbergite

Unknown Owner
This specimen showcases blocky, lustrous deep green hedenbergite crystals reaching up to 1.2 cm in length, attractively perched on matrix and preserved in good overall condition. Hedenbergite, a calcium iron pyroxene, is prized by collectors for its sharp crystal forms and rich green coloration. The specimen originates from the historic Nordmark mining district in Varmland, Sweden, an area long renowned for its production of iron, manganese, and associated silicate minerals. Mining activity at Nordmark dates back to at least the 16th century, and by the late 19th and early 20th centuries the district was a well known source of finely crystallized specimens sought after by European collectors. Accompanied by an antique label dating to the early 20th century, visible at the end of the video, this piece carries documented historical provenance and collector interest. A classic example of Swedish mineralogy, it combines strong aesthetic appeal with enduring historical significance, making it a distinguished addition to any refined mineral collection.
