Almandine-pyrope in graphitic schist, 19 cm, from the Red Embers mine, Erving, Massachusetts; collected with Jason Baskin in 2010. Teamwork of a three-person crew was required in collecting this difficult host rock. Once this specimen had been collected, Jason Baskin prepared it by abrading away the schist from the front and back of the piece to expose the garnets. Alan and Elise Benson collection; Jeff Scovil photo.
