Hematite, iridescent crystals with minor quartz, 12 cm, from the Bacino stope, Rio Marina mine, Elba Island, Tuscany, Italy; collected in 2014 with Tuscan mineral collector Marco Lorenzoni during an excavation approved by the Parco Minerario di Rio Marina. After several days of research in the iron mineralized rock unit, using an excavator, an unusual, large boulder covered in a thick crust of goethite was encountered. The block was removed from the front of the excavation and abandoned at the side of the working area. A few days later, after better inspection, I found that below the goethite crust, hematite and quartz were present, forming nice cavities rich in large hematite crystals with magnificent iridescence.
