Sanbornite, 13 cm, from Fresno County, California. Collected in 1968 on a trip with Si and Ann Frazier. I remember Si hacking away at the dike, hitting his hands occasionally with his rock hammer and sprinkling drops of blood on the surrounding rock. Other collectors with us thought the red spots were the rare mineral gillespite; most of the “gillespite” collected on that trip was actually Si Frazier’s “hemoglobinite.” Jeff Scovil photo.
