Quartz
Quartz, 29 cm, from the Zederhaus Valley, Austria. The quartz crystals are colored greenish by chlorite inclusions. Clefts are difficult to find in the heavily forested terrain, and most only yield small crystals. This piece was found in March 2003 in the rubble at the bottom of one cleft with several other specimens. The main crystals show a variety of growth patterns, including a 17-cm, doubly terminated crystal. See Lapis, May 2011 for more details. Reinhold Bacher collection and photo.
