“The Fire of Australia” opal, 150 cm (988 grams), considered to be the most valuable piece of high quality opal rough in existence. It was mined in 1946 at the 8 Mile field at Coober Pedy, South Australia, and acquired in 2018 with the assistance of the Australian Government’s Cultural Heritage Account.
