Adamite, 7.6 cm, from the Ojuela mine, Mapimi, Durango, Mexico. The Ojuela mine had been worked for 350 years for silver and lead before adamite was found there in 1946. Yellow adamite specimens were collected and available worldwide in the 1960s and 1970s. In 1981, purple adamite crystals were discovered on Level 6, San Judas vein. After the initial opening, miners stole many specimens, and Mike New, the mine manager, bought back 26 specimens for $8,000. These specimens were first publicly displayed in February 1982 at the Tucson Gem and Mineral Show.
