Sphalerite, 8.6 cm, from the 2500 level of the Balmat #4 mine. Massive sphalerite from Balmat is often spectacularly fluorescent, sometimes in multiple colors, such as this example. The top image shows the specimen in normal light. The middle two images show the specimen fluorescing and phosphorescing in short-wave ultraviolet light and the bottom pair shows fluorescence and phosphorescence in long-wave ultraviolet.
