Rather than being the usual individual large gemmy crystal, or small number of crystals on matrix, this wonderful Elbaite tourmaline specimen is an entire bed of crystals, making for a quite different small cabinet display piece. Coming from the less well known Arqueana mine, near the site of many fine new discoveries in the Coronel Murta area of Minas Gerais state, Brazil, this is a really distinctive and charming specimen, most likely from a find decades ago. Its colour - a bottle-green to teal blue-green - shifts along the length of the prismatic crystals from light to dark, with deep teal blue-green flat pinacoid terminations. Perhaps more noticeable though, is its shimmering silky lustre, something rarely seen in tourmalines. The main terminations are in perfect condition, but a few of the crystals around the edges of this specimen are chipped. Individually, the crystals reach over 3 cm in length. A really special Brazilian tourmaline, full of great character.
