This specimen is both an educational talking point all on its own, and a big showpiece that displays a hot pink, unusually tabular crystal of kunzite perched in the middle of surrounding matrix of the kinds of minerals that form in a gem pegmatite deposit pocket. The kunzite is complete, 9 x 8 x 1.8 cm in size, and embedded face-on in an unusual display, as if frozen for a viewer by quartz and cleavelandite hands holding it in front of you like a mirror. The bright green tourmalines all around as accent are a great color balance to the pink kunzite. And, amazingly, the piece is complete all around, including sides and back. The bottom is even crystallized, if crudely. All in all, it is not particularly refined in style, and yet is enormously impactful and just pretty. The pink kunzite is centered perfectly and contrasted against white minerals and matrix that acts as a nice contrast; and again shows the story of how these minerals crystallize sometimes simultaneously out of a hot solution, perhaps 65 million to 100 million years ago in this situation. Also, it happens to be both large and colorful for the price point. 6.8 pounds.
