Malachite in Calcite
1
Unknown Owner
This is a classic 'included' Calcite from the famous Tsumeb mine in Namibia. Colourless rhombic crystals of Calcite coat one side of a miniature-sized specimen with a line of reddish rock matrix forming the core. The Calcite crystals, which reach up to 1 cm on edge, overgrow an earlier phase of Malachite crystals that are developed somewhat stalactitic in form thus giving the impression that that skewer through the Calcite. Some of the Calcite crystals show signs of chipping on their corners or edges, but this still presents as a fine example of this classic form of clear Calcite with intriguing inclusions. Ex Hettrich Collection.
