Fluorite with Pyrite
Anton mine at Wieden, Black Forest, Baden-Württemberg, Germany was a silver mine that operated between 1930 and 1974 with the silver- and arsenic-rich ore hosted in Fluorite veins. Compared with many 20th century German mines mineral specimens are rarely seen available although it is known that some crystallized Fluorite specimens were brought out before the mine closed. Certainly not as colourful as Fluorite from other mines across Germany, the majority of Fluorite from Anton mine was like this one - colourless to very pale coloured. At 12 cm in length this plate of intergrown colourless cubic crystals is a very good size for display and presents an unusual partial overgrowth of golden Pyrite/Marcasite preferentially developed along certain sides of the cubic Fluorite crystals as rounded crystal groups and larger slightly botryoidal crusts. The Fluorite crystals exceptionally reach 3.5 cm on edge, although most are less than 2 cm across. There is minor damage to Fluorite crystals around the edges, but the central crystals are in good condition. A rarer locality Fluorite for Germany. Ex Hettrich Collection.
