This wonderful Dioptase-Calcite combination piece from the famous Weyand Collection in Tsumeb is full of wonderful detail and at very large miniature to small cabinet size it makes a really lovely smaller display piece. An initial layer of large (up to 1.4 cm on edge) pale cream coloured rhombic Calcite crystals coat a thin piece of matrix. Classic, glossy, deep emerald green well-formed rhombic prisms of Dioptase, to 5 mm in length, are dispersed across the surface of the Calcite crystals. This in itself would be nice, but in an attractive twist, a later thin overgrowth of tiny white (to extremely pale minty blue-green) crystals of Dolomite (or possibly Calcite) encrust the very edges of the Calcite rhombs in thin lines, with some scattered upon the green Dioptase crystals too. A really distinctive Tsumeb mine Dioptase, oozing character.
