Red Beryl

Red Beryl is one of the rarest gemstones in the world. A variety of Beryl, coloured by traces of manganese, good crystals are only known from a handful of localities in Utah and New Mexico and even when well-formed, their crystals rarely reach more than a centimetre in length. This larger miniature specimen features the classic white fine-grained rhyolitic matrix. Sat centrally upon the specimen are two main hexagonal prisms of Red Beryl. The longest of these is 2 cm in length in total, but is 'segmented' where it has naturally tectonically detached into three sections. The second crystal is much smaller at 3 mm in length, and sits at about 90 degrees alongside the edge of the larger crystal. Both crystals are very intensely red coloured and the larger one has an upper 5 mm gemmy section with a nicely formed flat termination. This is a really high quality specimen of this extremely rare variety of Beryl.
