Fluorite with Quartz and Calcite
Unknown Owner
At 14 cm in length this is a very prominent Fluorite specimen from Nikolaevskiy mine at Dal'negorsk in the Kavalerovo Mining District, Primorskiy Kray, Far-Eastern Region, Russia. Famous for perfectly colourless Fluorite crystals of several crystal forms, the cube is probably the best known form. Forming a long line of sharp-edged intergrown and twinned cubes, with several to over 2.5 cm on edge, this piece really does stand out. Being colourless and transparent, the cubes present through them their background and other inclusions like a window. This is particularly striking with 'fingers' of Quartz seen inside some of the cubes, rising up from the Quartz-Calcite host matrix. There are a few very small chips to the corners of the Fluorite cubes, but overall this is a very high quality display Fluorite from the important older locality in far eastern Russia.
