Azurite with Olivenite Calcite and Malachite
A thin plate of orange-red ochreous iron oxide (probably Goethite) is encrusted with crystallized Calcite upon which a spectacular large fan-like spray of similar iron oxides are completely coated with sparkling blue microcrystals of Azurite. Scattered upon the surfaces of the Azurite and along the base of the specimen are pale mint-green microcrystals of Olivenite which are probably grading towards Zincolivenite in composition. Minor brighter green microcrystals of Malachite are also present. It is from the famous Kamariza mines at Lavrion District, Attikí Prefecture, Greece where a series of mines are interconnected underground. The specific individual mine from where this specimen came is not recorded, but it is a larger, and very displayable classic form of Azurite from this famous ancient European mining region.
