Baryte
A sparkling and glassy cabinet plate of baryte from the famous finds in the late 1990s at the Meikle Mine in Nevada, collected by miners and sold through Harvey Gordon at the time "off the company books" so to speak. This led to a later commercial mining contract which produced more baryte, though generally of less gemmy style. These older finds, like this, are and always were fairly rare. Sharp, transparent to translucent, amber-yellow baryte blades richly cover the thin boxwork matrix of this very attractive and very good piece from the heyday of collecting the material underground! There must be several dozen, sharply formed, transparent, yellow-amber crystals from 1 to 2 cm in size. They all have great color and are in good condition save a compromised crystal on one end; and some minor contacting around the periphery. There are some micro calcite crystals in the recesses of the baryte crystal intersections for added interest. These specimens now only come from recycled collections. Raul Madrid was a major investor at the time and bought quite a few for his collection (the label as preserved here).
