Connecticut tourmalines are very uncommon on the market and this is a very good green elbaite from the Gillette Quarry. It is pretty much gemmy from top to bottom, terminated, lustrous with a fine grass-green to olive green color. It is lightly striated parallel to its length with a good pyramidal termination that has a small, incomplete, 1 cm sidecar crystal near the top. There is also another, partial, 1.2 cm crystal near the base of the main crystal. It's not just rare, but attractive. Probably collected in the 1950s-1960s. Note: a former collection label indicates the tourmaline is repaired (which is particularly common from Gillette Quarry). Ex. Florence Mecke collection. Recently in the James Zigras collection, of which we purchased a small historic Connecticut suite.
