Labradorite var. Sunstone
Oregon sunstone is one of the great U.S. gems; and faceted stones are now well known and appreciated by collectors everywhere. And, matrix specimens - not cutting rough nodules or broken bits - are very uncommon. Although it relatively common as gem rough at some level, it's rare mineralogically from the standpoint that it is gem-quality feldspar that can range in color from blue-green to red with a large variation of color in between. The distinctive feature of Oregon sunstone is the internal "schiller" that is seen in many gems which is an internal shimmer caused by microscopic, internal metallic hematite or copper inclusions. This is an incredible display piece of the material composed of somewhat crude in habit, coppery red crystals that you can discern some actual faces on despite the external etching and overall "rounded" nature of them, and they are some of the best and most colorful "crystals" we've seen for a sunstone display piece! It is not the most beautiful feldspar in the world, but it MIGHT be the most beautiful and certainly among the more significant sunstone specimens of any quality for a collector. It seems a unique piece. There are even adjacent "crystals" that don't show the schiller, yet are champagne-yellow in color! Comes with a custom engraved acrylic base. Purchased on sight by a dealer friend from the miner who found it at the claims in about 2015. None of us have seen anything like it for sale before.
