Beryl var. Red Beryl
A beautiful hot magenta-red, 1.7 cm, doubly-terminated red beryl crystal is well exposed on white rhyolite matrix from the Ruby Violet claims in the Wah Wah Mountains of Utah, the only source of large red beryl crystals on the planet. The crystal is more transparent gooseberry red at the top half and a more translucent pinkish gooseberry red at the bottom half. The bottom is flat and lustrous while the top termination is partially visible and then remainder is within the rhyolite. It's a gorgeous crystal and the contrast of the red on the off-white matrix is just perfect! As an added bonus, there two tiny, 1.5 and 2.5 mm red beryl crystals adjacent to the top termination and then there is another 2 mm accent crystal at the apex of the piece! Because of the rarity, beauty and the uniqueness geologically, I consider red beryls one of the most collectible mineral species. This is a display-worthy red beryl miniature with a relatively large crystal and with good size in the price point.
