Hematite with Quartz
Unknown Owner
This really fine display of 'iron roses' - the unusual rosetted crystal-form of the bladed variety of Hematite known as Specularite - comes from the discovery at Lechang mine in Guangdong Province, China in the very earliest years for the 21st century. Small cabinet in size, this is a wonderfully aesthetic piece, with orange-red stained milky 'needle' Quartz crystals skewering through the many groups of Hematite crystals. There is some chipping around the edges of the rosettes on one side of the specimen, but on the other side the condition is very good. It should also be noted that the Specularite from Lechang mine is not a glossy and black as the European 'iron roses' but more of a matt grey finish. Ex Martin Kershaw Collection, no. 964.
