Pink layered banded Rhodochrosite is quite an unusual form for this species but Capillitas mine in Argentina has produced some of the most sensational specimens known. This attractive light and dark pink alternately banded specimen is a cut and polished thin (2.6 cm) slice presenting quite a wide area (11 x 9 cm) ending with a beige coloured layer. It is not a parallel cut, but tapers at one end. It doesn't show one circular stalactite, but a very thick sequence of banding from either one side of an extremely large stalactite or a flowstone with attractive patternation. Ex Martin Kershaw Collection (no. 562) this is an older specimen, probably dating back several decades, or more.
