Cape Province, South Africa are without question the source of the world's finest Rhodochrosite crystals, but these manganese mines have also provided a diverse range of Rhodochrosite forms. The most obvious, and valuable, are the intense cherry-red to raspberry-red gemmy 'dog's-tooth' form, especially when they are aggregated in impressive layered beds. This soft-pink coloured sugary textured botryoidal Rhodochrosite miniature is very different, but still very pretty and in excellent condition, growing outwards over a small dark brown manganese oxide-rich core.
