This crystal looks like a slender blue gem aquamarine at first glance, but it is actually an apatite of such high quality luster and gemminess that it is hard to register at first what you are looking at. It was the finest gem apatite in a small pocket from the early 2000s, which Bill Larson bought directly in Burma and kept for his own personal collection of Burma minerals (which we bought the majority of, in 2019). It is a small miniature, but stands with huge impact in a case, on a custom base. The combination of glassy luster, rich color, and shape makes I leap out. Many people consider this one of the best few pockets of apatite, gram for gram in quality, from anywhere. Certainly, it is distinct from any other finds. The crystal is perfect, pristine. When you look very closely, you can see all kinds of subtle patterning and detail on the edges, for extra interest. This later went into the Brent Lockhart collection of miniatures/toenails/thumbnails, which he proudly exhibited in Tucson and Denver shows over several years. We proudly purchased it back from him, recently. It seems expensive for an apatite, perhaps; and it is. But this is something special, a higher level of play for that species on the competitive level, and certainly among best of species in size class.
