Pyrite replacing Ammonite fossil
A super sparkling pyrite replacement of an ancient ammonite fossil, from a recently mined locality in Poland. I am told that it has produced material in the past, but a large collection was assembled and only recently released to the market, which explains the variety of shapes and styles. We bought a large group of this material, supposedly the best of the finds, from Polish specialist Tomek Praszkier, in early 2025. This was, for my tastes, the best miniature for its impactful display, beauty, and robust size and shape. Ammonites from the Kowala Quarry are from the Late Devonian period, approximately 382 to 380 million years old.
