This is a true rarity - a Morenci stalactite from the single zone in the history of the mine that produced these dramatic sparkling growths of vertical columns of azurite! They almost never come up for sale and this is a fine miniature. This pocket was found in 1986 by Stan Esbenshade while working with Wayne on his contract with Phelps Dodge at their Morenci Mine. The company blasted through the zone and no more was ever recovered after a small 8 day window in which these were collected. The story is well told is Wayne Thompson's biography and memoirs, released by Mineralogical Record in 2026. Complete all around, this is the rare example which ended up with Wayne's friend Bill at the time, and became part of the Larson family Azurite collection exhibit case.
