This azurite has history: Ben Williams became the General Manager of the Copper Queen from 1882 to 1889 and built a stunning personal collection that was only relatively recently brought to market by the Larson's circa 2000; after staying in a family descendant's attic for nearly a century. While they sold much of the collection at the time, this update features pieces from the Ben Williams collection that were kept back another 2 decades in the collection of Bill Larson as a special suite. This is simply a rare and balanced example of the legendary "Bisbee Copper Roses" that came out of the old Czar shaft (Czar Mine) in the late 1800s and first few years of the 1900s. These were never equalled by later finds of azurite in Bisbee - or anywhere. They remain distinct to this day, over a century later. A complete rose in good condition is almost impossible to find and literally only comes to market as generational collections are brought out again to share with new collectors. This piece is an amazing large miniature with the best color and luster, that leaps out at you as you hold it. It has a sharp form, without the usual subtle rolling or abrasions that happen to this soft mineral over 100 years of moving from person to person, drawer to drawer.
