This is an especially gemmy Spanish Fluorite from the famous Berbes Mining District in the Asturias region of northern Spain. Berbes is really well-known for the quality of its Fluorite which is often seen in association with Baryte as cockscomb crystal aggregates. This excellent cabinet-sized piece doesn't feature any Baryte but the quality of the Fluorite crystals more than compensates for that. The Fluorite, which is a rich but not too dark purple colour, is extremely glassy with an excellent transparency and the way the cubic crystals are intergrown presents a wonderful structural display. There is virtually no damage to the main crystals, bar the tiniest of edge wear, and they present distinctive, and attractive slightly stepped edges. At certain angles lovely deeper purple internal colour zoning stands out. The largest crystal reaches an impressive 4 cm on edge and many are of a really good size for display.
