The scale of these two slightly intergrown amber coloured Fluorite crystals, reaching 8 cm and 7 cm on edge, is simply remarkable for this stunning colour of Fluorite. These crystals come from the Bergmännisch Glück mine at Frohnau in the Annaberg District, Erzgebirge (the ore mountains), Saxony, Germany which is well-known for its diversity in Fluorite colour. The mine dates back to the 18th century as a silver and cobalt producer, but closed, and an attempted revival in 1832 lasted only five years. After the Second World War the mine reopened for uranium but has been closed for many years. Nevertheless, modern mineral exploration has produced some extremely fine Fluorite mineral specimens and it is likely that this marvelous specimen comes from those more recent finds. Not only are these cubic crystals extremely large, but their colour is very intense and the lustre very glassy. With directional lighting their amber colour glows like they have an internal fire. If you use magnification you might be able to make out one or two tiny chips to the edges of the Fluorite crystals, but there is no doubt that they are in fabulous condition. An absolutely wonderful German amber Fluorite.
