This larger cabinet-sized Fluorite specimen is an absolute classic from the Hermine mine in Wölsendorf Fluorite Mining District, Upper Palatinate, Bavaria, Germany. Well-known for Fluorite crystals overgrown, or encapsulated, in finely crystallized Quartz, and often with reddish inclusions of Hematite giving the Quartz a distinctive appearance of the variety known as Eisenkiesel, this is a perfect example. The Quartz overgrowth covers the entire display face and shows a wonderful sharp transition in colour from reddish on several edges of the Fluorite cubes but white on others. Added to this, a light dusting of golden metallic Pyrite crystals are seen scattered across the surface of the Quartz. Underneath the Quartz, as seen along the exposed sides of the specimen, the Fluorite crystals are colour-zoned in bands, with pale green dominating, but with pale purple and white evident too. A really wonderful classic Fluorite, instantly recognizable as from the Wölsendorf Fluorite Mining District.
