Making and Answering Offers

Propose your own price on a specimen, negotiate with counters, and check out once you agree.

Last updated

An offer is a price proposal sent through chat. The seller can accept it, decline it, or counter with a price of their own, and nothing is charged until the buyer checks out at the agreed price.

Making an offer

  1. 1

    Click Make an offer

On a specimen that accepts offers, click Make an offer. A chat with the seller opens with the offer form. Pick one of the suggested discounts or type your own price, add a message if you like, and click Send offer. Your offer includes shipping.

  2. 2

    Wait for the seller's answer

You're notified when the seller accepts, declines, or counters. While your offer is still pending you can update the price or cancel it from the offer card in the chat. All your offers are listed under Offers in your profile menu.

  3. 3

    Answer a counter

If the seller counters, open the offer from Offers and click Respond. You can accept their price, decline it, or counter back.

  4. 4

    If your offer is declined

You're told, and the specimen stays for sale. The declined offer stays in the chat, and you can make a new offer at any time or buy at the listed price.

  5. 5

    Complete the purchase

Once a price is accepted, the specimen is reserved for you and an order is created at that price. Click Pay now under Offers, or Complete purchase on the order card in the chat, then enter your shipping address and pay by card or PayPal.

Answering offers as a seller

  1. 1

    Choose which specimens take offers

Tick Accept offers on a specimen to let collectors send you offers. It works on specimens in your collection too, not only on listings.

  2. 2

    Review the offer

You get an email and a notification for every new offer. Open Offers in your profile menu, where offers waiting for you appear under Needs your action, and click Respond.

  3. 3

    Accept, decline, or counter

Accept to sell at the offered price. Decline to turn it down; the buyer is told. Counter to propose your own price; the buyer can then accept, decline, or counter back.

  4. 4

    Ship once it's paid

Accepting reserves the specimen and creates an order at the agreed price. When the buyer pays, it arrives with your other orders, and you ship it the usual way.

Common questions

Does my offer include shipping?

Yes. The offer is the full price you pay. If it's accepted, the order has no separate shipping charge.

Do offers expire?

No. An offer stays open until the seller answers or the sender cancels it. It is also cancelled if the seller changes the listing price or removes the listing.

How many times can we counter?

A negotiation allows up to three counters in total. After that, the last offer can only be accepted or declined.

Am I charged when my offer is accepted?

No. Accepting reserves the specimen and creates an order, but you only pay when you complete the purchase at checkout.
