Rubellite Tourmaline$2,500.00

A stunning, unusually gemmy (literally, gem-quality) tourmaline crystal with a bit of complementary matrix that helps it display nicely. This is from modern era (2010-2019) finds at the Sosedka pegmatite in the famous Malkhan region of Russia, historically known for tourmalines since the times of the tsars and once the world's most important source of red tourmaline. The crystal has sharp form, unbelievable transparency, and a glassy surface. Many tourmalines with glassy lustrous surfaces are not also bright inside, but this one is, with an internal sparkle that is hard to capture. This is classic cranberry red color, highly desired, and probably has some facet rough value as well. Full disclosure - the crystal looks pristine at first glance, with an invisible and clean lock-fit horizontal repair in the upper-middle (with minor restoration at that junction); and hence the price is reduced accordingly. It looks like a $10k piece, which it would be if unrepaired in our opinion; even though you cannot easily see the repair when on display. 60 grams, robust and dramatic on a shelf.
