Rosasite on Calcite
Rosasite is one of the more rare and colorful copper minerals from the Tsumeb assemblage, especially when seen like this - in isolated spheres contrasted upon a crystallized white matrix of calcite. Rosasite can be primary, but it is frequently a pseudomorph. Indeed, rotate the piece and you will see that, where the largest sphere is exposed, it is a classic rosasite pseudo after or coating upon malachite. Indeed, each rosasite ball is a coating upon malachite, which explains the spherical form. Up to 7 mm across, the rosasites contrast aesthetically against the layer of calcite, which is composed of rhombs up to about 3 mm. Classically, the calcite also fluoresces orange.
