This is quite a large individual Elbaite tourmaline crystal from the famous Cruzeiro mine at São José da Safira, Doce valley, Minas Gerais, Brazil. It reaches 11.1 cm in length and although it is not especially gemmy, it does respond well to back lighting, bringing out a rich two-tone green colour. It is fully terminated and has a quite distinctive three-pronged star-like termination, where the edge faces are recessed, producing ridges. Its entire length shows complex smaller parallel lines and small prisms, giving it a slightly rough texture.
