This impressive matrix tourmaline is old material from this famous mine in Brazil, which was highly productive in the 1960s-80s and really famous worldwide for multi-colored tourmalines in matrix at a time when matrix tourmalines were incredibly rare (before Afghanistan opened up and Brazil was mined more intensively for mineral specimens). Such pieces, with this classic look, are survivors. It has the pink-red core, and a teal blue-green termination, nice and thick and also lustrous. This piece is a perfect balance with the attractive matrix of cleavelandite and quartz. It GLOWS when backlit. It is not repaired, a miracle for one of this size; although it has a few very, very minor and shallow edge restorations we had done in the lab (present, but undetectable except under UV light). This came from an old collection of a Chinese customer, who had purchased it decades ago.
