Fluorapophyllite on Stilbite

The famous disco ball pocket of apophyllite on stilbite came out of India in 2001, now over 20 years ago, and still to this day remains a legendary find, unsurpassed for its unique style and habit of crystals. You can see the cluster is splayed and spherical, and yet has unusual flattened terminations compared to the often-sharp pointed terminations on most clustered apophyllites. Later pockets of the same general area produced more crystals of ALMOST the same habit, but to the experienced eye when you see them side by side, the newer finds over the few years after had more flattened, splayed, and dispersed clusters that just did not have a volumetric and spherical "feel" (for lack of a better word) of those in the original discovery, such as this piece. This uniqueness, the visual impact as a part of it — that is what makes these special amongst so much apophyllite out there. Always has. Always will. This piece is a good-sized matrix of stilbite hosting a sharp, isolated "disco ball" of splayed apophyllite crystals. The cluster measures 5 x 4 x 3 cm. The piece is special in its size class, especially compared to what is available today as things like this only come back out of older collections.
