This wonderful miniature matrix specimen of colour-zoned green to pink Elbaite is from the famous gem pegmatites at Paprok in Kamdesh District, Nuristan Province, Afghanistan. The gem-bearing pegmatites at Paprok are famous for colourful gemmy Elbaite tourmaline crystals, but many are individual crystals detached from matrix. This gorgeous piece features a 5 cm long main Elbaite crystal, very glassy and bright, and fully terminated at both ends with a green body and pale pink tip. It rises up through two terminated pale Smoky Quartz crystals and a little Cleavelandite and has a flat pinacoid base and classic three-sided pyramidal termination. Several other smaller green and pink terminated Elbaite crystals are well placed crossing the surface of the main Smoky Quartz crystal. This is a very pretty miniature for the discerning collector.
