Cerussite (twinned) on Cerussite
A lead carbonate cherished by collectors, Cerussite is one of Tsumeb's best-known species. However, heart-shaped cerussite twins are rare as heck, especially lustrous ones! Most are cloudy and occluded, dull — but this has a brilliant shine and sparkle more reminiscent of the cerussites from Kombat Mine (famous for gem twins). However, this twin is on reticulated, Tsumeb-style boxwork of Cerussite, a clear indicator that it is a Tsumeb piece, not a mislabelled Kombat piece! This gemmy thumbnail has stunningly glassy, adamantine luster and the champagne-colored tint you often recognize in many specimens. The two perfect cleavages on the back create almost cathedral-like windows into the crystals, but perhaps most special of all is that the two best-known twinning habits both occur together in this one cluster. The majority of this thumbnail is a golden, V-twinned crystal, and adjoining it are clear, colorless, glassy blades of reticulated (snowflake) twinned Cerussite. Having both together, and with such nice aesthetics, is a rarity. Dr. Erika Pohl-Ströher - 40609. One of our favorite thumbnails in this release, it is LITERALLY a gem!
