Tourmaline
Gillette Quarry, Haddam Neck, Middlesex County, Connecticut
60x5x5mm

Forest green to yellow, gem, pencil tourmaline. Mined in the 1800s, when the majority of the gem quality Connecticut tourmalines were used for cut stones, by Tiffany’s and George Frederick Kunz. This specimen is brightly colored for the locality. It was formerly in the collection of James Zigras and is one of my favorite pieces, from his Connecticut tourmaline collection. This crystal has one professional repair, 1.5 cm from the termination. This tourmaline shows strong pleochroism when lit by a polarized screen. It has color play going from brown and yellow to bright green and blue.
