Elbaite Tourmaline$2,000.00

This lovely miniature Elbaite tourmaline from Pederneira mine has stunning colour and an unusual character to it. Fully terminated at one end the crystal is an unusually shaped prism, with one entire side recessed, producing a 'U'-shape in cross-section. This affects the termination, producing a narrow 'ridge' with sloping sides. There are no reported repairs but the lowermost section of the crystal is kinked, and naturally rehealed. Pederneira mine at São José da Safira in Doce Valley, Minas Gerais state is one of the most famous gem tourmaline-bearing pegmatite deposits in Brazil. First seriously worked for specimen-grade tourmaline in 1999, the mine rapidly established itself as one of the world's premier mineral producing localities, providing magnificent large dramatic displays of freestanding tourmaline crystals in a variety of vibrant colours. This miniature crystal is very gemmy. It has several contacted areas on the edges, but it is its wonderful rich colour and unusual shape which really make this specimen so lovely.
