Description
Scapolite is a group name for the series between Marialite and Meionite. Normally these are rock-forming minerals but rarely gem quality occurrences are made. Probably the most famous occurrence of gem Scapolite is that from the 'Marble occurrence' in the Morogoro Region, Tanzania. Crystals are rarely large, but their quality comes from their perfection as demonstrated extremely well by this lovely crystal. At 2.7 cm tall it is a good size to show off its wonderful shape and bright, gemmy appearance. This material has the added bonus of being UV reactive, going from golden yellow in daylight, to pale blue under LW UV light and bright red under SW UV light. A world-class Scapolite crystal for its form, size and gemminess.
