Description

Bright, thick needle-like, red-silvery and metallic crystals of Kermesite form a dramatic spray of crystals. This is an uncommon antimony-sulfide with some oxygen included, and the crystals here form an aesthetic, divergent group. The spray of lustrous crystals reach 7 cm in length. This notable 2002 find from a single pocket produced the best crystals in the world for the species! The initial, and even subsequent, reported Chinese localities were at first questionable and then by 2008 the Caiwa Mine was given as the correct locality. These Kermesites are simply shocking for the species.
