Tourmaline

A very nice 107 gram cute miniature, from modern mining at this very old and famous tourmaline locality. Recent work, involving huge efforts and funding, have driven tunnel to where tourmaline was found 100 years ago and the effort is beginning to pay off with finds like this colorful classic San Diego tourmaline. It is not repaired, and has no real damage of note...it simply is weird! The bottom pink portion is crystallized, composed of hundreds of tiny pink crystal tips like fibers, and must have grown against another crystal. It is an almost curving bottom termination, quite unique. Only the very very tip at the bottom has a break, where it detached from matrix. We would display this either diagonally as in the first photo, or vertically but showing the unusual curvature at the base. A really unusual miniature multicolored tourmaline from any locale, but especially from this historic site.
