Tourmaline with Lepidolite (one time pocket)
The Lemon Pocket from the Coronel Murta area of Brazil produced some of the most spectacular, polychrome elbaite tourmalines from Brazil in decades back around 2005, and with colors that are more reminiscent of Afghanistan than Brazil. The color is, as it looks, YELLOW on the termination atop a maroon-red body. It is a large and robust crystal that measures just over 2.5 inches in height and over 1.5 inches in width. This large 220-gram, beautiful crystal exhibits a bright, vitreous luster and is gemmy to translucent in its entirety, more gemmy at the termination. It is mostly a rich pink near the base with an unusual transition to a lush yellow-green color in the central part topped off by a plush-red at the perfect, complex, pyramidal termination. This stunning piece is associated with silvery-lavender, randomly oriented books of silvery lepidolite to just over a centimeter on the side and rear of the piece. Small crystals of possibly microlite, are also present. It comes with a custom engraved acrylic base. These things look Afghani in form and termination. In fact, rarely would you see such from Brazil! It looks like the combination of a Brazilian and Afghani tourmaline, if they had a hybrid child. But the color is unique, not found anywhere else quite like this. And in combination with the crazy luster and sharp terminations, these will be remembered as one of the best tourmaline finds of the era I am sure. Major pieces from this pocket are now in the most elite private collections, and very few of any note have been for sale recently or can be expected to be. It comes with a custom lucite base. Note: we obtained this directly from the source at the time, sold one customer, where it has lived with for nearly 20 years until now.
