Description

Beryl var Aquamarine

Hewitt Mine, Haddam, Middlesex County,

Connecticut, USA

Ex David Ziga

This guy is a terminated (DT, but very contacted on the bottom termination as there used to be more matrix attached there) Aquamarine from the Hewitt Mine in Haddam CT. And not only is it terminated with nice beveled faces, but it is GEMMY. Although the surface is frosty, you can see clearly though that top section to the matrix behind it. The pegmatite matrix consists of quartz, albite, muscovite, and a few bits of spessartine garnet.

One of these days, I hope to pull something like this out myself from the Hewitt Mine. I came close the last time I was there, but unfortunately that aqua crystal was broken in half. Hopefully, I get to treat it as a bit of a project rock and see what I can learn to do with it in the sense of prep work.
